Real Madrid 3-1 PSG LIVE! Champions League result, match stream and latest updates today | Evening Standard

Karim Benzema scored a quickfire hat-trick as Real Madrid fought back to beat PSG 3-1 and move into the Champions League quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

Mbappe struck before halftime to put the French side 2-0 up in the last-16 tie and had two other goals disallowed for offside as PSG created chances to extend their lead in the first hour of the game.

Benzema equalised in the 61st minute, however, following a bad error from PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma who took far too long on the ball inside the area and gifted it to Real who took full advantage.

Roared on by a sold-out crowd at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and with PSG in panic mode, Benzema scored again in the 76th minute from Luka Modric’s pass and grabbed his third almost immediately after another costly mistake by a PSG defender to send the 13-times European champions into the last eight.

Match report on thrilling night

Karim Benzema struck a hat-trick as Real Madrid produced an incredible comeback against a shell-shocked PSG to win 3-2 on aggregate and reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

For the first hour at the Bernabeu, Kylian Mbappe produced an imperious performance as he scored one and had another two disallowed, leaving PSG 2-0 up on aggregate and seemingly in control of the tie.

But Benzema pulled one back before netting twice in a matter of seconds as PSG fell apart and the Spanish giants ruthlessly punished their ragged opponents to book a place in the last-eight draw.

Ferdinand: PSG collapse was not a surprise

Rio Ferdinand believes PSG will continue to fall short so dramatically due to the mentality of those at the club.

“This isn’t something that is a surprise because we have seen this time and again in the knockouts of the Champions League as PSG press the self destruct button,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“It is mentality, maybe the culture of the club. This isn’t something that is new at the club. They have fantastic talent in the squad but when the mentality isn’t right on the day, you have to stay in the game.

“They didn’t do that. It is part of the ingrained culture at PSG.”

Champions League quarter-final lineup is starting to take shape, with four teams now through….

21 shots for Real Madrid, many of which came in those final 20 minutes.

For 150 minutes of this tie, PSG were in control and it was the Kylian Mbappe show. Karim Benzema then had other ideas, taking full advantage of some ragged defending to win the tie for Real.

Real Madrid 3-1 PSG (3-2 aggregate)

Real Madrid have somehow won this tie and they are through to the quarter-finals. It’s another horrendous collapse from PSG, and Real were only too happy to take full advantage.

Benzema the hat-trick hero.

90+3 mins: Mbappe knocks it past the defender, can’t keep it in play though… goal-kick.

That may well be that. How have PSG thrown this away?!

90+1 mins: WOW. That really wasn’t far away.

Messi whips it over the ball, so much pace but can’t get it to come down again. Lands on the roof of the net.

90 mins: Camavinga desperately pulls back Neymar who was driving into space. Great foul really, well worth the yellow card.

Vinicius down with cramp now – Real doing everything they can to wind down these seconds.

Four minutes added on.

88 mins: Wall charges the shot down, and then again.

Kimpembe gives it away cheaply though, what a disastrous few minutes he’s having. PSG have got to keep the ball and settle down.

Mbappe finally gets on it and can break up the pitch, Vazquez trips him up. Yellow card.
