Juventus turn to Man Utd flop to replace Cristiano Ronaldo after woeful start to season – Mirror Online

Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United forward Anthony Martial in the January transfer window.

Martial, 25, continues to face an uncertain future at Old Trafford after a lack of first-team minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Frenchman was linked with a move to Serie A in the summer with Inter, but any move failed to materialise.

But now, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, The Old Lady are now considering a move for Martial in the coming months.

The same report says that United’s valuation of Martial could be in the region of £40million – a steep price for a player who has made limited appearances this season.

Martial has played in just seven games for Solskjaer this season, where he has featured prominently from the bench.

However, the article also claims that Juventus may propose a year-and-a-half loan offer for Martial to help ease the potential cost of signing the France international.

The Frenchman’s current deal at Old Trafford expires in 2024, but it looks increasingly unlikely that Martial will be at the club until then.

Martial has fallen down the pecking order under Solskjaer, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho all being chosen ahead of him.

The 25-year-old hasn’t turned out for The Red Devils since going off injured in the 1-1 draw with Everton at Old Trafford in October, where he netted the opening goal of the game.

Martial was named as a substitute for the recent games against Atalanta in the Champions League and the contest with Manchester City before the international break, but Solskjaer opted against using him.

However, when asked about the injury relating to her husband, Martial’s wife, Melanie said her partner didn’t face an injury setback at all.

“Anthony has never been injured,” she replied to a question by a fan on Instagram. “He only had food poisoning two weeks ago.”

Melanie then later took to the social media site again to upload an image of Martial working on his fitness on an exercise bike with a post that read: “Never give up”.

Instead, Solskjaer turned to Marcus Rashford, a player who had been struggling with illness following the trip to Bergamo to face Atalanta.

Following the departure of Ronaldo, Juventus now rely heavily on the attacking threat posed by Paulo Dybala, and Martial could help ease that burden.

Should Juventus come calling, then it could be the perfect opportunity for Martial to revive his career, and one which is too good to turn down.

Next up for United is a trip to Vicarage Road to face Claudio Ranieri’s Watford in what is another make or break game for Solskjaer.

United will then switch their focus to Villarreal, who they play in the Champions League at El Madrigal in a crucial Champions League clash on Tuesday.
